Heated Debate on Brazil’s Forest Code
Today was a big day in the Brazilian House of Representatives. Amendments in a new text to their nation’s Forest Code, is up for vote. As things stand right NOW, it could legalize the destruction of millions of acres in the Amazon rainforest.
Credit : Rachel Kramer / NWF – Making Amendments to the Brazilian Forest Code that would allow holes (like the one above) in the Amazon to get even BIGGER? Doesn't seem like the kind of law you would want to pass, would you?
But the voting doesn’t just end at the House: if the vote passes in the House, it will need to be voted on and approved in the Senate, and then it could still be vetoed by president-elect Dilma Rousseff.
This would be the first major change in 45 years, and could be the biggest ever threat to the Amazon!
What do YOU do? Stay tuned…..
